William “Bill” Cote, 85, of Kensington, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2025 at the Hyder Hospice House in Dover NH. He left this world after a long and courageous illness surrounded by the love, presence and support of his family in the days and hours leading up to his passing, the same way he lived in it — with grace, calm strength, and a gentle heart.
Born on July 10, 1940 and raised in Amesbury, Massachusetts, Bill attended Amesbury Public Schools and graduated from Amesbury High School in 1958. He first attended barber school and began a career working as a barber for several years alongside his father, Armand. He then pursued his true calling as an electrician, eventually becoming a respected and talented master electrician. He carried immense pride in his craft and was known for his meticulous work, steady hands, and willingness to lend his skills whenever someone needed help.
Bill married the love of his life, Sylvia Cote, and together they shared 64 years of unwavering devotion and partnership. He was an invested father to Joetta Girard (Cote) and her husband, Michael Girard, and a deeply proud grandfather to grandson Keith Girard and his wife, Kaitlin Girard (Foley), granddaughter, Marie Hall (Girard) and her husband, Ryan Hall. He found immeasurable joy in his great-grandchildren — Ayla, Elsie, and Rowen — whose laughter and visits brought light to even his hardest days. Bill is also survived by his sister, Sandra Rodriguez (Cote).
He was predeceased by his parents, Armand and Elizabeth Cote, and by his sister Linda Watkins (Cote).
A Man of Many Interests and Simple Joys
Bill embraced a full life, finding happiness in both quiet moments and active pursuits. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he especially loved hockey, tennis, and skiing, whether watching, playing, or sharing stories about memorable games and seasons.
His curiosity led him into a variety of interests throughout his life, including karate and foraging for mushrooms, hobbies that reflected both his discipline and his appreciation for the outdoors. Bill also had a deep and abiding love for animals, and he took genuine joy in welcoming his daily visitors — raccoons, birds, chipmunks, and squirrels — who came to recognize his gentle presence and reliable kindness.
Those who knew Bill often spoke of his quiet courage, his steady compassion, and the way he always seemed to have a kind word ready for anyone who needed one. Friends and family remember him as someone whose heart was soft, whose faith was strong, and whose spirit remained peaceful even in the face of illness. There is comfort knowing that he is now free from pain and held in the loving care of the Lord he trusted so deeply.
A Legacy of Love
Bill’s true legacy is reflected in the love he gave so effortlessly. His gentle humor, soft-spoken wisdom, and unwavering kindness touched countless lives, and the memories he leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, but his family takes solace in knowing he is at peace and reunited with loved ones who passed before him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23)
