Rose (Donavan) Colvin Obituary

Colvin, Rose

09/04/1940 – 01/11/25

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose (Donovan) Colvin, 84, of Amesbury, MA.  Rose passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Nevins Rehab in Methuen MA.

Rose was born in Amesbury, MA on September 4, 1940 to the late Mary (Mahair) and James Donovan. She is predeceased by her husband Boyd Colvin, her brother James Donovan, and her grandson Brian Eldredge.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Robert Eldredge and wife Marcia, Mark Eldredge and wife Ellen, Dana Eldredge and wife Jeannette, Tina Bunnell and husband Al, and Danny Eldredge and wife Jessica.  She also leaves behind seven grandchildren Chris, Jenna, Ben, Debbie, Kristen, Lyla, and Cade, and eight great grandchildren that she loved and adored. She also leaves behind her brother Michael Buckley, and lifelong best friend Norma Roy.

Rose was small-town at its best, she loved the Amesbury community and set down deep roots here. She chose to raise her family here and enjoyed an impressive 30+ year career at Vermette’s Market.  Many that knew her from Vermette’s will say that her contagious laughter and welcoming smile were a staple of the local grocer.

Rose lived a simple and frugal life, but was rich in the ways that mattered most. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world and her loss will be deeply felt by all that knew her.  She’ll be lovingly remembered for her great sense of humor, her endless compassion for helping people, her no-nonsense attitude, her fiery spirit and strength, her unmatched ability to make connections with people that she met, and her always-filled dispenser of M&M’s.

Her family wishes to extend special thanks to the caring staff at The Elizabeth Kelsey House in Amesbury, Nevins Rehab & Nursing facility in Methuen, Element Care in Methuen as well as the nurses and surgeons at Lawrence General Hospital, ICU unit.

In lieu of flowers her family is requesting donations be made in Rose’s name to Saint Jude Hospital, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Calling hours will be at E.V. Jutras and Sons Funeral Home on 118 Friend Street in Amesbury on Thursday, January 23, 2025, 4:00pm till 6:00pm.

Rose will be brought home to Amesbury and laid to rest with a private Memorial Service at a later date.
