Raymond J. Dow Jr., 85, of East Kingston, NH, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025. Born on January 15, 1940, in Amesbury, MA, he was the son of the late Raymond J. Dow Sr. and Stephena (Peterzenski) Dow.
Ray grew up in Amesbury and attended local schools, graduating from Amesbury High School in 1957, and then attended both Merrimack College and northern Essex College. He excelled both academically and athletically. He served as President of the Student Council and was a member of the drama club in high school and was a talented multi-sport athlete, participating in tennis, hockey, basketball, and baseball. His passion for sports continued throughout his life with softball, bowling, and golf.
Ray met the love of his life, Ann Klein, at a school dance. A wonderful dancer, he won her heart, and the two were inseparable from that day forward. They were married on April 15, 1961, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport, MA.
He spent his professional career at AT&T, which later became Lucent Technologies, beginning as a tester and then a draftsman. A self-taught software programmer, he became a computer engineer. Ray worked in technology for 35 years until his retirement.
Throughout their life together, Ray and Ann made several homes—moving from Amesbury to Seabrook NH., Atkinson NH., and The Villages in Florida, before settling in East Kingston, NH. Ray had a deep love for music, movies, electronics of all kinds, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Above all, he found great joy in spending time with—and spoiling—his beloved grandchildren.
Ray found happiness in the simple things in life. Whether it was taking scenic drives to North Conway, grilling kielbasa during family cookouts, setting up Christmas trains, making personalized music CDs, converting home movies to DVDs, or enjoying an ice cream cone at Dairy Queen, he treasured each moment with his loved ones.
Ray was predeceased by his parents and brothers-in-law Jeffrey Klein and Michael Klein. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Ann (Klein) Dow; his children: Raymond Dow III and his wife Cynthia of Londonderry, NH; Karen Williams and her husband Bob of Mesa, AZ; Kelly Dupuis of Manchester, NH; and Lori Caiazzo and her husband Frank of Epping, NH. He is also survived by his brother Dennis Dow and his wife Denise of Amesbury, MA; his sister Lea Ann Syvinski and her husband Charles of Apex, NC; six grandchildren: Derek Dupuis and his wife Emma, Andrea Sitton, Christopher Dupuis and his wife Molly, Matthew Caiazzo and his wife Stephanie, Melissa Bingham and her husband Paul, Daniel Caiazzo and his wife Emily; and four great-grandchildren: Wyatt Sitton, Sophia Caiazzo, Leo Caiazzo, and Remi Dupuis. Additionally, he leaves behind sisters-in-law Roslyn Maguire (and her partner Richard Duston), Maureen Klein, and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Langdon Place of Exeter and Exeter Hospital for the professional, thoughtful and empathetic care they provided for Ray.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 18, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend Street, Amesbury, MA. followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
