John R. Bourque Obituary
John R. Bourque, known to many as Jackie or Jack, passed away after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, he remained brave, positive, and always cheering on those around him. Jack was born on October 9, 1935, and raised in Amesbury, the son of John Bourque and Ethel Brabing Bourque. He attended Sacred Heart School and Amesbury High School before continuing his education at Curry College. He later proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service in the Korean war, Jack married the love of his life, Marilyn Babine. Together they built a life centered on faith and family, raising six children. After beginning his family, Jack returned to school and earned his degree from Merrimack College. Jack was a true gentleman and loved his family with a ll his heart. He cherished large family gatherings and especially enjoyed celebrating holidays and special occasions at the beach where they lived for more than twenty years. He also spent many happy years in Barefoot Bay, Florida, where he enjoyed the lifestyle and friendships there. An avid sports enthusiast, Jack enjoyed all sports and was a natural born athlete. In his high school and college years he excelled in football, hockey, and baseball but golf was his true lifelong passion. He played as often as he could and found great joy being out on the course. Jack leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Marilyn, and their children: John and his wife Marlea, Pamela and her husband Gary, Karen and her husband Scott, Julie and her husband Carl, Jeffrey and his wife Terri, and James and his wife Rebecca. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kylle, Breanah, Logen, Brandon, Chelsey, Ali, Jacqueline, Matthew, Camille, Brendan, Carissa, and Maddy, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Adeline, Ben, Chase, Evan, Max, Thea, Graham, Grayson, and Amelia. Jack also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the best Dad and Papa that any family could ever wish for. He will be remembered for his strength and devotion to his family and to his faith. Contributions can be made to the charity of your choice, but Jack’s preference was charities such as St Judes Hospital, Easter Seals or Shriners Hospital. Arrangements by EV Jutras and Sons. Services will be private.
