Guy Ashton Obituary

Guy John Ashton, 66, of Amesbury MA, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025. A proud Englishman – never once tempted by US citizenship – Guy was born in Huddersfield, England to Elaine and Hedley Ashton in February 1959. With an intellect matched only by his sense of adventure, he opted for a tour abroad with the Royal Military Police over attending the raft of top

universities that no doubt would have had him. After his service, he spent his twenties continuing his travels and collecting an arsenal of stories, characters and musings that dazzled and amused and would have stayed fresh for countless more lifetimes. After stints in more than fifty countries, he at last arrived in the US in 1988 where he met his wife, Julianne, in Lawrence MA when they were both working as social workers. They married in 1989, eventually settling in Amesbury and welcoming their three sons: Jamie, Jack and Jake.

Guy was an autodidact and an entrepreneur. He took rightful pride that his business, Amesbury Consulting, was a thought-leader in the field of datacenters, an industry dominated by those with more conventional pedigrees. As ever, his edge was raw IQ and endless curiosity and tenacity. At the time of his death, his bookshelves were littered with the latest on AI – he was an old dog who could learn new tricks. Guy’s greatest pride and sense of purpose, however, came from his role as a father. When his sons were young, he read to them each night, and he took them as often as possible for walks in the woods, or to tidepools on Plum Island, or simply around the town. His joie di vivre was infectious; no matter the time or place he found ample opportunity for teaching, storytelling and a little bit of mischief. He was a lover of dogs, especially his two golden retrievers, Star and Bell, and he cherished the outdoors and exploring a dizzying array of musical genres – all legacies that have been thoroughly passed on to each of his sons.

Guy is survived by his wife, Julianne; his sons, Jamie, Jack and Jake; his mother, Elaine; his sister, Liz; his mother-in-law, Sue; and many other family and friends, including members of the Haverhill Ridge Runners Fish and Game Club. All whose lives Guy has touched are invited to attend a service at 11am on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Bartlett Cemetery in Amesbury.
