Edward Horton Obituary

Edward William Horton

September 26, 1952-April 21, 2026

Mr. Edward William Horton of Milton, N.H., formally of Peabody and Lynn, MA returned peacefully to his external home with the Lord on April 21, 2026 in the presence of his loving family.

He was married to the love of his life, Deborah (Douglass) Horton with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

He was born in Lynn, MA, the son of the late Germaine (St. Cyr) Horton and William Andrew Horton. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School with the class of 1970, earned a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Boston State College in 1975 and a Master’s degree from Western New England College in1996. He was a member of the Boston State Warriors football team. Mr. Horton was a past Eucharistic minister at St. Adelaide Parish in Peabody, MA. After college graduation, Mr. Horton was employed with Ogden Security, where he supervised the Ogden security details at Fenway Park and the old Boston Garden. In 1979 he joined the ranks of the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) with the 61st RTT retiring after nearly 34 years attaining the rank of Lieutenant prior to his retirement in 2013. During his career, Lt. Horton was assigned to A-1, State Police Academy, A-Troop, SAVE Team, A-3, F-Troop, Certification Unit and CDL. He was a co-coordinator of MSP Junior Olympics as well as a member of the MSP Boxing Team, Tae Kwon Do Karate Club, MSP Pipes and Drums (Drum Major and Piper) and the former Troopers Association. He then served as Executive Protection Specialist with Dunkin Brands until his full retirement in 2020. Ed enjoyed and cherished the friendship of many good people throughout these years.

He was the world’s most devoted father and “Grampy” and shared an unbreakable and immeasurable bond with his daughters and four beautiful grandchildren. He was always their biggest fan in every aspect of their lives and loved to watch them grow through the years. He was also the proud godfather to his godchildren: Jodi Murphy, Hailey Ventura, Joshua Johnson and Megan Costa.

He enjoyed his family time on the lake at Milton Three Ponds, Aruba and numerous family trips where many cherished memories were made. He was proud to have been the boat/tubing captain for family and friends through the 30 plus years of lake life. He may even say it was a ‘phenomenal’ privilege.

Mr. Horton wanted to acknowledge and commend the hardwork and dedication of the medical and LVAD teams at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for giving him an extra two, blessed years with his loved ones.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Douglass) Horton, adored daughters, Monique Danielle Griffin and son-in-law Ryan of Amesbury, MA, Noelle Ashley McCusker and son-in-law John of Wilmington, MA, two granddaughters Summer Ashley-Lyn Griffin and Skylar Clarisse Griffin; two grandsons Ryan William-Ray Griffin and Porter John-Edward McCusker, niece Jodi J. Murphy and husband Jack of Aiken, South Carolina, niece Jana Worrell of Georgia, along with many great nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Judith Main Clanton, niece Sharah Clanton and best friends for eternity Alfred Ventura and Robert Johnson.
