Claire (Pottie) Madden Obituary

Claire Madden (née Pottie), born on September 6, 1935, in Newton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Amesbury, Massachusetts. She was 90 years old. Claire graduated from Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, New Hampshire, with the Class of 1954. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others—first as a devoted stay-at-home mother and later as a compassionate home health aide. Her exceptional dedication to her work earned her the distinction of being named Massachusetts Home Health Aide of the Year, a testament to her unwavering commitment to those in need. Claire’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond professional boundaries. She had a remarkable gift for befriending and welcoming elderly clients into her life with warmth and sincerity. Her home became a haven for many who needed care and companionship, reflecting her deep sense of empathy and generosity.

She found joy in simple pleasures—baking delicious desserts for family and friends, square dancing with enthusiasm, reading quietly at home, and spending cherished moments by the ocean. Her love for the beach was matched only by her love for people; she was happiest when surrounded by those she cared for.

Claire was a woman of faith and a longtime member of St. Joseph Church at St. Andre Bessette Parish Catholic community. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Kevin Madden (Katie), Michael Madden, Timothy Madden, and Debbie Roy; her grandchildren Jennifer Koopman (Corey) and Erin Madden; and her great-grandchildren Eli Koopman and Quincy Koopman. Claire also leaves behind her sisters Joan Haynes and Lorraine Rago; her brother Joseph Pottie Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Madden; her sister Jean Amador; and nephews Tom Chouinard and Todd Chouinard. She also leaves behind her second family, the staff and residents at the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury.

Claire’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched with kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
